Hypnotherapy for Smoking Cessation

Smoking is one of the biggest killers of the present times. Every year around 100,000 people die from smoking, with many more deaths caused by smoking-related illnesses.

Smoking increases a person’s risk of developing serious health conditions. Some may be fatal and others can cause irreversible long-term damage to health.

Smoking contributes to almost 90% of lung cancers and to cancer of the mouth, throat, and esophagus. There is also massive damage to the heart and cardiovascular health leading to stroke and heart attacks .

The addictive aspect of smoking is due to the neurochemical effects of Nicotine. The effects of Nicotine are almost instantaneous, it rushes to the brain and alters the chemicals to produce fluctuations in the mood which appear to reduce feelings of stress and anxiety. These feelings cause the dependency to increase and create an illusion of stress reduction.

Since the brain gets used to the levels of Nicotine, one need to smoke more to derive the same effect! Also certain mental health conditions like depression, anxiety and panic worsen the addiction.

Since each person has their own unique triggers and behaviours, hypnotherapy helps to address these and a specific customised approach to alter the addictive behaviour is adopted.

Since hypnosis is not about mind control or making one do things under trance, the person has to be motivated to kick the habit and willing to be a partner in the therapy.
